Kill la Kill Ryuko Waifu Deck Tech

For my very first post on this blog, I just had to go with the deck I made for my one true waifu: Ryuko from Kill la Kill!

Note: this deck includes cards from the power-up set, so it can only be built in Japanese (or in a Japanese-English mix).

Level 0s

2x
KLK/S27-056 Ryuko, Searching for “Single Bladed Scissor Girl”

[C] If you have 2 or more other Character with either ::Clothes:: and/or ::Family::, this gains +1500 Power.

Just your standard level 0 3500, not much to see here.

KLK/S27-P01 Ryuko in Swimsuit

[A] When your other Character with either ::Clothes:: or ::Family:: attacks, this gains +1000 Power for the turn.

This one can get up to 4500, which is pretty beefy for a level 0. Plus, isn’t she super cute?!

KLK/S27-045 Senketsu, Ryuko’s Outfit

[A] When this is placed from hand to the Stage, choose 1 of your other Characters with Markers, and that Character gains +1000 Power for the turn.
[A] When this becomes Reversed, if the Level of the Battle Opponent of this is 0 or lower, you may Reverse that Character.

I pretty much never use the first ability on this card. The reverse ability is nice, but the important part is actually that this is a marker target for the Level 3 endgame Ryuko. Note this is also the only non-Ryuko card in the entire deck.

KLK/S27-046 Ryuko, First Encounter with Senketsu

[A] [(1) Discard a card from hand to the Waiting Room, Send this to Memory] When this becomes Reversed, you may pay cost. If so, choose 1 ‘”Berserk” Ryuko’ in your Waiting Room and put it Rested in the Slot this was in.
[A] RECOLLECTION If this is in Memory, when a card in either player’s Clock is moved to Waiting Room due to an effect of a card of its owner’s, that player may put the top 2 cards in their Stock in the Waiting Room. If not, that player puts the top card of the Library in Clock.  

When this set first came out, and I was still a noob to the game, I thought this card was terrible. Obviously, I’ve changed my mind since then, since it’s now in my deck. I do feel that healing has become more prevalent in the game, so heal tax can be really helpful. Also, the first Berserk Ryuko card was pretty bad itself. Luckily, the power up set printed a new Berserk Ryuko…

 

Level 1s

[A] When this is placed from hand to the Stage or via effect of [A] ability of “Ryuko, First Encounter with Senketsu” to the Stage, reveal the top card of your Library. If it’s a Level 0 or lower Character, put it in your Stock. (Otherwise put it back where it was)
[A] When this becomes Reversed in battle, put this on the bottom of your Library.

The first of two power up set cards in this deck. This is just a straight upgrade from the old Berserk Ryuko from the original set:

[C] This cannot be Reversed by effects of [A] abilities of your Opponent’s Characters.
[A] When this is placed from the Stage to the Waiting Room, put the top card of your Library in your Clock.

Being able to possibly refund the stock you paid for the change or hard-cast is really nice, as well as not having to take straight up damage.

KLK/S27-066 Junketsu

[Counter] Choose 1 of your ::Clothes:: Characters, and that Character gains +3500 Power for the turn.

Kill la Kill had two Junketsu cards. This was one and the other one was “Look at up to 4 cards from top of your Library and search for up to 1 ::Clothes:: Character, reveal it, put it in your hand, and put the rest in the Waiting Room.” To be honest, I like the search one better, but it’s blue and this is a Ryuko waifu deck so we have to go red! Why do I have to include Junketsu at all? The level 3 Ryuko sends it to memory in order to get the level 0 Senketsu as a marker!

KLK/S27-041 Ryuko, to a New Self

[A] When this attacks, if “Graduating from Sailor Uniform” is in the Climax Zone, this gains +4500 Power for the turn.
[A] When this attacks, if “Graduating from Sailor Uniform” is in the Climax Zone and your are Level 2 or higher, you may choose 1 card in your Opponent’s Waiting Room and put it on top of the Library.

This is probably my second favorite card in the deck. A 10k beater with climax and a decompressor? Sign me up!

KLK/S27-051 Ryuko, Wearing Junketsu

[A] [(2)] When this is placed from the Stage to the Waiting Room, you may pay cost. If so, choose 1 “Ryuko, Related by Blood” in your Waiting Room and put it Rested in any Slot on the Stage.

This is just a straight on death change card. Not much more needs to be said.

 

Level 2s

KLK/S27-064 Ryuko, Related by Blood

[A] [Discard a card from hand to the Waiting Room] When this attacks, if “Life Fiber Synchronize, Kamui Senketsu!” is in the Climax Zone, you may pay cost. If so, choose 1 Character in your Waiting Room and return it to your hand, and this gains +4000 Power for the turn.
[A] ENCORE [Put the top card of your Library in your Clock] 

The second climax combo of the deck. You get to hand fix and it gains power. 11.5k without climax power isn’t too bad.

KLK/S27-T16 Ryuko, Wandering Female High School Student

[C] ASSIST All your Characters in front of this gain +1000 Power.
[A] [(2)] When this card is placed from hand to the Stage, you may pay cost. If so, choose 1 Character in your Waiting Room and return it to your hand. 

The only back row card in this entire deck. You can also use all that stock from your not-brainstorming to salvage a character. Plus, it comes in SP form, so how could I say no?

 

Level 3s

[C] If there are 2 or fewer Climax cards in your Waiting Room, this gets -1 Level while in your hand.
[A] When this is placed from hand to the Stage, look at up to 3 cards from top of your Library, choose up to 1 of them and put it in your hand, and put the rest in the Waiting Room.
[A] When “Graduating from Sailor Uniform” is placed in your Climax Zone, if this is in your Front Row, choose up to 1 Character in your Waiting Room and return it to your hand, and this gains +3000 Power for the turn.

The second of two power up set cards. It’s an early play, lets you look at 3 cards, and it combos with the same climax as the level 1 card. Three climax combos for the price of two!

KLK/S27-042 Ryuko, Decided to Wear and Finish the Fight!

[A] When this is placed from hand to the Stage, you may choose 1 “Junketsu” in your Waiting Room and send it to Memory. If so, choose 1 “Senketsu, Ryuko’s Outfit” in your Waiting Room and put it face-down under this as Marker.
[A] [(1) Reveal 1 ::Clothes:: Character in your hand and put it face-down under this as Marker] When this becomes Reversed in battle, you may pay cost. If so, Rest this.
[A] [(2)] At the start of your Encore Step, you may pay cost. If so, deal X Damage to your Opponent. X = # of Markers under this. (Damage Cancel can occur)

My favorite card in the entire deck. This card gets a marker on play, and gains another marker every time it’s reversed. Then, on your encore step, burn for the number of markers! I usually slam this card into a higher power card just so I can purposely reverse it. Then, after seeing if the damage stuck, you can choose whether or not to add a second marker, so in other words, you can choose whether to burn for 1 or 2. If you’re still alive the next turn, you can choose to burn for 3 instead! Plus, it also comes in SP form!

 

Climaxes

KLK/S27-070 Life Fiber Synchronize, Kamui Senketsu!

[A] When this is placed from hand to the Climax Zone, draw a card, choose 1 of your Characters, and that Character gains +2000 Power and +1 Soul for the turn.

This is the climax for the level 2 combo. I don’t see too many decks running 2k1 draw CXs nowadays, but it can certainly be helpful at times. Combine it with the level 2’s climax combo power increase to get it to 13.5k if you really need to beat over something. Also, I don’t feel as guilty using it first turn when I have one character on the field as I would with a global soul climax.

KLK/S27-068 Graduating from Sailor Uniform

[C] All your Characters gain +1000 Power and +1 Soul.

This is the climax for the level 1 and level 3 combos. Your standard 1k1 CX.

 

I hope this was at least a little bit interesting to read. Kill la Kill was pretty much the reason I got into Weiss Schwarz in the first place, and this deck will always have a special place in my heart.
